The Whimsical World of Two Aficionados

As I browsed the daily news headlines, this caught my eye. I’m always a sucker for a good cover; make it a Christmas tune and I’m totally sold.  To make it even better, he’s Canadian!  Sean Quigley’s video of a classic Christmas carol went viral within a week of posting it online. I can definitely understand why it has had over a million views in less than a month.  What also caught my eye was that, at 16 years old, Sean recognizes the true meaning of Christmas; one thing that many of us have lost sight of.

Since it’s Christmas Eve, I couldn’t think of a better song to post than the Little Drummer Boy.  It seems as though the true meaning of Christmas has been lost in all our commercialism.  This song reminds us of what Christmas really means (aside from the birth of Jesus of course…).  As Sean put it in an interview, it’s about a boy who hears of the birth of Jesus. While he has no gifts or money for the newborn, he does have the gift of his drumming.  Although it seems that the gift is small, it’s more than enough.  The song reminds us that we don’t need all the luxuries in life.  It shows us that we should cherish the things we do possess.  Although the little boy in the song had nothing to offer, he still offered the one thing that he did have.  This Christmas season, take a step back from your hectic life, spend some quality time with your family, give up some time or donate to help those less fortunate.

Merry Christmas!

-B.
